A port city is never quiet. There are ships, trams, gulls, building sites, the neighbour’s piano and the festival three streets away. We spent the summer listening to all of it, on purpose, with notebooks and one borrowed sound meter.
What we found surprised us. Noise is not only a nuisance. It is also how a city tells you it is alive, and the quiet corners we found only mattered because of the noise around them.
Read this one slowly, somewhere loud.
